Two suspects were arrested after CCTV footage and call records helped police track their movements towards Karjat following the attack. A 33-year-old man from Panvel died after an SUV driver allegedly ran over him twice following a dispute over parked two-wheelers outside a hotel in Shiravane on Saturday morning. The SUV driver and three other men allegedly assaulted two people, including a restaurant manager who attempted to intervene, before escaping from the spot. Police arrested two of the accused, identified as Satish Tayde and Kalim Shaikh, on Sunday evening. Investigators traced their movements using CCTV footage and call detail records. “They left for Karjat after the incident and were heading towards Pune. Their vehicle was found in Karjat. We have also identified the other two accused and will arrest them soon,” said ACP Sandesh Naik. The incident resulted in the death of Ranjitsingh Daljit Shergill, 33. The complainant, Ashutosh Anil Morjkar, 33, also suffered serious injuries to his head and hands.

Dispute over two-wheelers parked outside hotel

According to Morjkar’s complaint, he and his friend Mubin visited Sunrise Hotel in Shiravane around 5am on Saturday for a drink. At around 7am, they went to a nearby hotel to have food. Mubin had parked his two-wheeler outside the hotel before stepping away to smoke. When he had not returned by around 7.45am, Morjkar went outside and found him arguing with four men. Several two-wheelers near the hotel entrance had allegedly been knocked over by the group. Morjkar said he attempted to intervene and settle the dispute, but the men allegedly abused him. Two of the men then left, while the other two walked towards a Creta SUV parked in a nearby lane. Morjkar followed them and suggested that they go to the police station to resolve the matter. According to his complaint, the driver refused and allegedly threatened him, saying, “I will not let you go alive today.”

SUV driver allegedly ran over victim twice

The driver allegedly reversed the SUV at high speed and hit 21-year-old Sujal Vishnu Khedkar, who was standing nearby. He then allegedly drove towards Shergill, who was attempting to calm the situation. The complaint alleged that the driver reversed the SUV and then drove forward over Shergill twice before fleeing towards the main road. The vehicle reportedly returned later, following which the second accused allegedly got out carrying a hockey stick and threatened Morjkar. He allegedly assaulted Morjkar, hitting him on the head and hands. Morjkar and Khedkar were taken to Meenatai Thackeray Hospital by their acquaintances. Morjkar later learnt that Shergill had died at the spot where the assault took place. Morjkar provided police with descriptions of all four accused and said he could identify them. The FIR also mentions the SUV's registration number, MH 12 UC 7755. Police are continuing their investigation into the dispute, the fatal assault and the involvement of the two accused who remain at large.
