Jindal Stainless has entered into a technical assistance agreement with Japan’s JFE Steel to improve manufacturing capabilities, product quality and process efficiency for selected ferritic stainless steel grades.

Jindal Stainless has joined hands with Japan’s JFE Steel Corporation under a new Technical Assistance Agreement aimed at strengthening the Indian company’s capabilities in producing selected ferritic stainless steel grades. The collaboration will bring JFE Steel’s manufacturing expertise into Jindal Stainless’ production processes. The agreement focuses on areas including product quality, manufacturing practices and process efficiency. Rather than being a conventional investment or joint venture, the arrangement is centred on sharing technical know how and improving production capabilities. Ferritic stainless steel is increasingly used in applications where manufacturers need a combination of durability, corrosion resistance and cost efficiency.

Its applications span several industries, including automotive components, railway coaches, kitchen equipment, construction and industrial machinery. Jindal Stainless sees this segment as an important area for future growth. The company already has experience developing and manufacturing specialised ferritic grades for different applications, and the latest agreement is intended to further strengthen those capabilities. Under the agreement, JFE Steel will provide technical assistance for the specific ferritic grades covered by the partnership. The support is expected to help Jindal Stainless improve its production practices while maintaining consistent quality standards. Jindal Stainless Managing Director Abhyuday Jindal said the partnership reflects the company's effort to continuously build its technological capabilities by working with global experts. He highlighted ferritic stainless steel's potential to offer performance and cost advantages across industries.

The partnership comes as Jindal Stainless continues to expand its manufacturing footprint and invest in higher value stainless steel products. The company commissioned a 1.2 million tonne per year stainless steel melt shop in Indonesia earlier this year and has also committed additional investment towards expanding downstream capacity in India. Jindal Stainless has also been expanding its focus on specialised stainless steel grades and value added products as demand grows across sectors such as mobility, infrastructure and industrial manufacturing. The JFE Steel agreement could help Jindal Stainless strengthen its position in ferritic stainless steel by combining its existing production capabilities with Japanese technical expertise. For the Indian stainless steel industry, such collaborations also highlight the growing emphasis on technology, specialised grades and manufacturing efficiency as companies look to compete in both domestic and international markets.
