Bipasha Basu Flags Alleged Worms in Nutrition Product, Seeks Help From Maharashtra FDA Chief
Bipasha Basu Raises Concern Over Alleged Worms in Nutrition Product, Seeks FDA Help Actor Bipasha Basu has raised concerns over a nutrition product after claiming she found what appeared to be tiny worms inside a newly opened container. The actor shared a video of the product on Instagram and tagged Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, seeking his intervention in the matter. Bipasha shared the video on her Instagram Story on Thursday, September 10, showing the contents of the container. In the video, she claimed that she had noticed tiny worms inside the newly opened product. “This is full of worms… tiny tiny worms. The new dabba that we’ve opened is full of worms,” Basu said in the video. The actor also tagged Maharashtra FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe in her post. Along with the video, she wrote, “@tukaram_ias You are our only hope… so we don’t get spoilt or adulterated stuff in everything that we purchase,” followed by a folded-hands emoji. However, Basu’s post represents an allegation, and there has been no independent confirmation so far that the material shown in the video was worms or that the product was contaminated. Tukaram Mundhe Known For Food Safety Enforcement Maharashtra FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe has gained public attention for his approach towards food safety enforcement in the state. The official’s work has also received praise from actor Manoj Bajpayee. In an earlier conversation with ANI, Bajpayee spoke about how people often take notice when government officials perform their duties with honesty and dedication. Bajpayee cited Mundhe as an example while discussing the public response to officials who carry out their responsibilities diligently. Maharashtra FDA Conducts Food Safety Inspections
The Maharashtra FDA has been conducting inspections at restaurants, hotels, roadside food outlets and other establishments involved in food preparation and sales. The department has also inspected businesses providing food through online delivery platforms. Authorities have taken action against food safety violations in several cases, including issuing improvement notices and suspending licences. FDA inspections have covered a range of concerns, including alleged milk adulteration, food safety practices at restaurants, junk food being sold around schools, and the manufacture and sale of banned products such as gutka and tobacco-containing pan masala.
The FDA’s response, if any, to Basu’s complaint will determine whether the product is formally examined and whether further action is taken.
