President Droupadi Murmu, in her Teachers’ Day message, highlighted the important role of educators in developing students’ confidence, character and independent thinking.

President Droupadi Murmu extended her greetings to teachers across the country on Teachers’ Day and paid tribute to former President and renowned educationist Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, whose birth anniversary is observed as Teachers’ Day in India. In her message, President Murmu emphasised that a teacher’s responsibility goes far beyond completing a syllabus or preparing students for examinations. Through guidance and mentorship, educators can influence the personality, values and confidence of young people. She urged teachers to create an environment where students feel encouraged rather than intimidated.

According to the President, supportive and caring educators can help children recognise their abilities, overcome challenges and develop the confidence needed to pursue their goals. President Murmu also stressed the importance of helping students become good human beings. She said education should contribute to the development of character and encourage young people to become responsible members of society, rather than focusing only on academic achievement. Another key point in her message was the need for teachers to encourage independent thinking and curiosity. She called on educators to update their knowledge, make effective use of technology and adopt innovative teaching approaches suited to the changing needs of students.

The President also highlighted the importance of recognising that every student has unique potential. She said dedicated teachers can identify these individual strengths and inspire children to work towards excellence in their chosen areas. Her message comes at a time when technology is rapidly changing the way students learn and interact with information. President Murmu stressed that teachers should adapt to these changes while continuing to ensure that education remains focused on values, character and the overall development of children. Concluding her message, President Murmu expressed gratitude to teachers for their contribution and wished for educators to nurture enlightened generations capable of taking the country forward.
