Diljit Dosanjh Praises Govinda, Calls Him a ‘Legend’: ‘Bollywood Will Never Have Another Like Him’
Diljit Dosanjh praised Govinda as a “legendary artiste,” saying Bollywood will never have another actor like him and recalling the happiness his films brought to audiences.
During an Instagram Live session, Diljit Dosanjh spoke about his admiration for Govinda and expressed his wish to work with the legendary actor.
Govinda may have been away from the big screen for several years, but the actor continues to be remembered for his comic timing, dance moves and memorable films. Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh recently opened up about his admiration for Govinda and revealed that he still hopes to work with the veteran actor in one of his films. Diljit, who is currently travelling for his Aura World Tour, interacted with fans during an Instagram Live session on Monday. While speaking about his upcoming performance in Ahmedabad, the singer began singing Govinda’s song “Kem Chhe” from the 2000 film Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hain.
Diljit then spoke warmly about Govinda and his contribution to Hindi cinema. “I love Govinda man. Govinda warga artiste naa Bollywood mein hua aur naa hoga (There has never been an artiste like Govinda in Bollywood, nor will there ever be one). Govinda is Govinda. My wish to work with him in one of his films remains unfulfilled. No one can come close to his comic timing. He is a legendary artiste,” he said. The singer also praised Govinda’s memorable songs and his successful collaboration with filmmaker David Dhawan. Diljit recalled the unique entertainment value of their films and said that movies today are increasingly focused on box-office numbers and competition. “What legendary songs he had. David Dhawan and Govinda's pair was amazing. Un filmon mein jo swaad tha, khushi thi ek, now happiness is just telling the other person that my film has crossed ₹100 crore. Now the just telling this is happiness. Govinda sir's films used to give us happiness, now films have less happiness and more competition,” Diljit said.
Govinda and David Dhawan were one of Bollywood’s most successful actor-director pairs, delivering several popular films together. Their collaborations include Partner, Coolie No. 1, Raja Babu, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Jodi No. 1, Aankhen and Saajan Chale Sasural, among others. However, the duo stopped working together after Partner in 2007. Govinda was last seen on the big screen in the 2019 film Rangeela Raja, in which he played a double role. The film failed to connect with audiences and performed poorly at the box office. Govinda is now preparing for his return to films with the upcoming comedy-drama Roopa. He will produce the film and is set to star opposite newcomer Rani Swarnkar. Diljit’s comments have once again highlighted Govinda’s lasting impact on Bollywood, particularly his distinctive comic style and the light-hearted entertainment that defined many of his most popular films.
