Sonu Nigam is widely regarded as one of the most versatile playback singers in Hindi cinema, and his latest performance in the US has once again showcased his vocal range. A video of the singer performing a popular Shah Rukh Khan song in both male and female voices has gone viral on social media, leaving fans impressed. Sonu Nigam is currently touring with his The Revolution – Sonu Nigam Live concert series. On September 13, 2026, he performed at a sold-out concert at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in New York. A video from the concert shows Sonu performing “Aaj Ki Raat” from the 2006 film Don: The Chase Begins Again. The audience erupted in excitement as he switched between male and female voices during the performance. The original song was sung by Sonu Nigam, Alisha Chinai and Mahalakshmi Iyer. During the live performance, Sonu also recreated the female portions of the track himself, showcasing his impressive vocal control.

“Aaj Ki Raat” was written by lyricist Javed Akhtar, while the music was composed by the trio Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy — Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa. The film starred Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Arjun Rampal, Isha Koppikar and Boman Irani. The viral video has sparked plenty of reactions from fans online. One user called Sonu an “Absolutely legend,” while another wrote, “Aaahh! Such a treat to ears, legend for a reason.” A fan jokingly compared his female voice with singer Neha Kakkar, writing, “Even his female voice is better than Neha Kakkar.” Another listener said Sonu’s female voice reminded them of singer Sunidhi Chauhan.

Sonu Nigam once sang in 54 voices

Sonu Nigam has demonstrated his ability to experiment with his voice on several occasions. In an old interview, the singer revealed that he used 54 different voice modulations while recording the title track of Akshay Kumar’s 2010 film Tees Maar Khan. Speaking about the song, Sonu said, “Yes, that is true. I have sung the title track of Tees Maar Khan in 54 voices.” He explained that the idea was not originally planned. Sonu had recorded several versions of the same song, which music composer Shirin Kunder later combined to create a unique sound. “I am the chorus as well as the singer for this one, and all have still managed to sound different,” he had said. From switching between male and female voices during a live concert to creating dozens of distinct vocal variations in a single track, Sonu Nigam’s performances continue to highlight the extraordinary versatility that has made him one of Indian music’s most celebrated singers.
