Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad Booked Over Obscene Comment About Woman’s Body
Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad faces fresh controversy after BJP MLA Shweta Mahale Patil filed a complaint over his alleged obscene and misogynistic remark. Buldhana police registered a non-cognisable offence, while an FIR is yet to be filed.
Buldhana Police registered a non-cognisable offence following Shweta Mahale Patil’s complaint over Sanjay Gaikwad’s response to her “Baap to baap rahega” remark. Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad has landed in another controversy after allegedly making an obscene remark about a woman’s body while responding to a statement made by BJP MLA Shweta Mahale Patil. The latest row began after Mahale, 42, who represents the Chikhli Assembly constituency, approached the police over Gaikwad’s response to her remark, “Baap to baap rahega.” Gaikwad allegedly made a crude reference to how a woman could claim to be a father while possessing a male body. His comments have drawn criticism on social media, with many describing them as obscene and misogynistic.
Police register non-cognisable offence
Buldhana police have registered a non-cognisable offence based on Mahale’s complaint. However, an FIR has not yet been registered in the matter. The controversy is linked to an ongoing political dispute between Mahale and Gaikwad. The disagreement began during a birthday celebration organised for Vidyadhar Mahale, an Officer on Special Duty in the Chief Minister’s Office and Shweta Mahale’s husband. BJP workers had organised a large celebration for Vidyadhar Mahale in Buldhana city. After a power outage occurred during the event, Shweta Mahale accused Gaikwad of trying to disrupt the programme and obstruct the BJP’s efforts to strengthen its presence in the city. Gaikwad denied having any role in the power cut and said Mahale was like his sister. He also questioned the need for the large-scale celebration and alleged that people had been brought in from outside to attend the event.
Gaikwad’s response sparks backlash
On September 7, Gaikwad responded to Mahale’s “Baap to baap rahega” remark. During his response, he allegedly questioned how a woman could claim to be a father in the literal sense and referred to the male body in a manner that critics considered crude and offensive. The comments quickly triggered backlash, with critics accusing the MLA of making an inappropriate and misogynistic statement about a woman politician.
Previous controversies involving Gaikwad
This is not the first time Gaikwad has faced controversy over his conduct. In July 2025, the MLA allegedly assaulted an employee at the Maharashtra Legislature canteen following a dispute over food, which he claimed was stale. Police registered a non-cognisable offence in the case, but an FIR was not filed. In April 2026, Gaikwad also allegedly abused Kolhapur-based publisher Prashant Ambi over the publication of the historical book Who Was Shivaji?, written by late communist leader Govind Pansare. Gaikwad objected to the book’s title and questioned why the word “Chhatrapati” had not been used while referring to Shivaji Maharaj. With the latest police complaint over his alleged remarks against Mahale, Gaikwad has once again come under scrutiny over his conduct and public statements.
