The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has directed strict enforcement of DJ restrictions in Nagpur and across Vidarbha, taking note of noise violations during recent processions. The court also ordered action against organisers and sought a police report on steps taken.

High Court on Nagpur DJ Ban Issue The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has taken serious note of noise pollution caused by DJs during the Dahi Handi and Marbat processions in Nagpur. The court has directed the police to strictly implement the notification issued by Nagpur Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangare Patil regarding restrictions on DJs and sound systems. The issue came before the court after petitioners presented video evidence showing that DJs were allegedly played on a large scale during Dahi Handi and Marbat processions despite the notification being in force. A petition concerning noise pollution was filed before the Nagpur Bench on behalf of the Trimurti Nagar Mandal. During the hearing, the court also directed the authorities to take appropriate action against organisers based on the news reports and video evidence presented before it. The High Court further made it clear that restrictions on DJs should not be limited to Nagpur. The court directed that the orders restricting DJs and excessive noise should also be implemented in other districts of Vidarbha.

High Court Directs Strict Implementation of DJ Restrictions

The court observed that merely issuing a notification regarding DJ restrictions or noise pollution regulations is not sufficient. Authorities also have a responsibility to ensure that the rules are effectively and strictly followed. The court has therefore directed the police to enforce the restrictions in Nagpur as well as other districts across Vidarbha. The Nagpur Police Commissioner has also been directed to submit an affidavit before the court by September 22. The affidavit will include details of the action taken by the police to enforce the restrictions and address violations.

Noise Pollution During VHP Procession in Nagpur

Meanwhile, a separate incident involving noise pollution was reported during a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) procession in Nagpur. Police have registered cases in connection with alleged violations of the prescribed noise limits. The VHP had organised a procession in the city on Sunday to mark the foundation day of the organisation. Despite restrictions on DJs and other sound systems in Nagpur, police found that a Dolby sound system was allegedly operated at a volume exceeding the permitted limit during the procession. Following the incident, the Sitabuldi police registered cases in connection with the alleged noise pollution. A total of three cases have reportedly been registered in separate actions related to violations of the prescribed noise limits. The developments come as the High Court continues to stress the need for strict enforcement of noise pollution regulations. The court's latest directions mean that authorities across Vidarbha, and not just Nagpur, will have to ensure compliance with restrictions on DJs and high-volume sound systems.
