A video showing what appears to be a mock up of Apple’s long rumoured foldable iPhone is gaining major attention online, just days before the company’s September 9 event. The video was shared by Canadian YouTube channel Unbox Therapy and shows a book style foldable device reportedly sourced from China. The video has crossed 1.9 million views, adding to the growing excitement around Apple’s potential entry into the foldable phone segment. The handset appears to be a functional looking prototype or mock up rather than a retail ready iPhone.

Unbox Therapy host Lewis Hilsenteger highlighted the increasingly sophisticated quality of Chinese made prototypes, but the video does not establish that the device is an authentic Apple unit. The foldable shown follows a book style design, similar to other large foldable smartphones already available in the market. Details such as the final screen design, hinge mechanism and display crease remain unconfirmed. The timing of the video has added to the speculation because Apple is set to hold its “Surprise and Shine” event on September 9. Apple itself has confirmed that the event will begin at 10:30 PM IST.

The company is widely expected to introduce its new premium iPhone lineup, with reports also pointing towards a possible foldable model that could be called the iPhone Ultra. However, Apple has not officially confirmed the existence, name or specifications of a foldable iPhone ahead of the event. Reports suggest Apple’s first foldable could feature a large internal display and a smaller outer screen, adopting a compact, passport like form when closed. Other expected details include a high end processor and a premium price that could put the device above the $2,000 mark. With the September 9 keynote approaching, the viral unboxing has therefore added another layer to the speculation. For now, though, viewers will have to wait for Apple itself to reveal whether the much rumoured foldable iPhone is finally ready to become official.
