Bihar is set to deepen its use of artificial intelligence in education, with the state moving ahead with an MoU with Google to strengthen teachers’ AI skills.

The Bihar government is taking steps to bring artificial intelligence into classrooms by strengthening the technology skills of teachers. The proposed partnership with Google is aimed at giving educators practical exposure to AI tools and helping them understand how the technology can be used in teaching and learning. The initiative comes as Bihar works on a larger strategy to develop itself as an emerging AI hub. The state government has already approved collaborations with Google Cloud India, Microsoft India and Sarvam, among other technology companies, for developing an AI ecosystem. Teacher training is expected to be an important part of this transformation.

The government plans to equip educators with knowledge that can help them use AI for classroom activities, learning support and other educational requirements. The broader objective is to make teachers more comfortable with emerging technology rather than allowing AI adoption to remain limited to technical professionals. Google has also been expanding its AI education initiatives across India. Its Google AI Educator Series is designed to help teachers understand practical uses of tools such as Gemini for teaching, assessment, feedback and administrative work. The partnership with Microsoft and Sarvam adds another dimension to Bihar’s technology plans. While Microsoft is among the companies involved in the state’s AI ecosystem initiative, Sarvam brings a focus on Indian language and India specific AI capabilities.

The state has also indicated that AI based skilling will not be limited to teachers. Government officials, employees and young people are expected to be included in wider training programmes, with the aim of improving digital capabilities and employment opportunities. Bihar is also exploring the use of AI in government services and public systems. Officials have discussed using the state’s existing data infrastructure alongside cloud and AI technologies, potentially opening the door to technology assisted delivery of government programmes. The education push comes at a time when schools across India are increasingly looking at AI as both a learning tool and a new area of study. For Bihar, the immediate challenge will be ensuring that teachers receive meaningful training and that technology supplements classroom teaching rather than replacing the role of educators.
