Former India all rounder Yuvraj Singh shared a light hearted birthday message for Abhishek Sharma, turning the young cricketer’s special day into an opportunity for some playful banter. Abhishek, who has emerged as one of India’s exciting young batters, shares a close bond with Yuvraj, who has been one of his mentors during his cricketing journey. Their interactions often feature a mix of advice, encouragement and humour. On Abhishek’s birthday, Yuvraj reportedly joked about one of the batter’s trademark aggressive instincts. In a humorous reference to big hitting, he said, “Pehli ball pe lappa nahi marunga”, suggesting that he would refrain from launching into an attacking shot from the very first delivery.

The comment quickly caught attention because of Abhishek’s reputation for fearless batting. The left hander has built his reputation around an attacking approach, particularly in the shorter formats, where he has frequently looked to take on bowlers from the outset. Yuvraj, himself renowned for his explosive batting during his playing career, has often encouraged Abhishek to express himself on the field while also working on the technical and mental aspects of his game. The former World Cup winner’s birthday wish therefore carried an added layer of humour, with the ‘punishment’ seemingly designed around Abhishek’s aggressive approach to batting.

Fans have frequently noticed the mentor mentee relationship between the two left handed batters. Yuvraj has previously spoken about helping the youngster develop his game and has backed him to achieve bigger things in international cricket. Abhishek’s rise has also generated significant interest among Indian cricket fans, particularly following his performances in T20 cricket. His ability to score quickly and maintain an attacking mindset has made him one of the players to watch in India’s next generation. Yuvraj’s latest birthday message offered fans a glimpse of the lighter side of their relationship, combining cricketing humour with a personal celebration. The playful exchange has since added another memorable moment to Abhishek’s birthday celebrations, with the phrase “pehli ball pe lappa” likely to get plenty of attention from cricket fans familiar with his aggressive style.
