According to officials, the police team was conducting an operation after receiving information about individuals allegedly linked to vehicle theft. The suspects were reportedly intercepted as part of the operation, following which a confrontation broke out between them and the police personnel. An exchange of fire subsequently took place, during which two of the suspected vehicle thieves sustained gunshot injuries. They were taken for medical assistance, but were later declared dead. Police are now working to establish the identities of the deceased and verify their alleged involvement in vehicle theft cases. The third suspect reportedly managed to flee from the location amid the confrontation.

Following the incident, police teams launched a search operation in the surrounding area to track him down. Authorities are also questioning available information to determine whether other people may have been involved in the alleged vehicle theft network. Investigators are examining the events leading up to the encounter and collecting evidence from the spot. The police are expected to look into the weapons, vehicles and other material that may have been recovered during the operation, along with information that could help establish the suspects’ links to previous cases. The incident comes amid efforts by law enforcement agencies to crack down on vehicle theft and other organised criminal activities in Assam.

Vehicle theft cases can involve networks operating across multiple areas, making the identification of suspects and tracing stolen vehicles an important part of police investigations. Authorities are also expected to establish the exact circumstances under which the exchange of fire occurred. Details concerning who initiated the firing, the weapons allegedly used and the sequence of events will be examined as part of the investigation. Meanwhile, the search for the escaped suspect remains underway. Police teams are checking possible routes and locations where he could have gone after fleeing the scene, while further information about his identity and alleged role in the case is awaited. The investigation is still in progress, and officials are expected to release more details as the identities of the deceased suspects and the circumstances surrounding the encounter are established.
